PURITY OF GOLD

 


Generally, we measure gold by using the term Carat. It is nothing but describing the unit of weight for precious stones like gold and its purity with other metals. Mostly it is stated as Karat in US.

1 carat = 200 milligrams.

Here we look on, some basic forms of gold purity.

Purity of Gold :

The purity of gold depends upon the percentage of gold and other metals used in it to convert it as an object like ornament.

24 carat gold:

Without any other content, 100% of only gold, the purest form of gold is stated as 24 carat gold. It is in the sense, 24 out of 24 parts in gold does not contain any metal other than gold and there is not any high quality of gold more than 24 carat. It will be only in the solid form, we cannot make ornaments or jewellery with 24 carat gold.

22 carat gold:

Contains 91.6% gold. And thus, it is known as 916 gold in the local markets. 22 out of 24 parts were pure gold and others were mixture of metals like zinc, silver is stated as 22 carat gold. Mixture of other metals will make it flexible to prepare any type of ornaments and make it as more durable for customers.

18 carat gold:

75% of gold with 25% of other metals makes 18 carat gold. As same as before 18 out of 24 parts were pure gold and others were mixture of other metals. It is generally used to make stone studded jewellery or other diamond jewellery.

14 carat gold:

58.3% of gold with 41.7% of other metals like copper, silver, zinc makes 14 carat gold. It makes the sense that 14 out 24 parts were pure gold. And it is used to make daily wears, simple jewelleries and becomes more durable because of more alloy content.

At last, Each form as its own value, all these forms were only the difference of Amount of the gold and other metals used in the making of the jewellery.
